I’ve a friend who just asked me to be a People Technology Reviewer … a person who reviews gadgets not based on the technical specifications but explaining in very user friendly, lifestyle and make sense approach. So, I’m doing my first people review on PS3.

The thing is, I’ve had the PS3 since it was launched in Asia (bought it in a mall in Beijing) and have never regretted it. First of all, the machine looks really cool besides my LCD TV. And during that period of time, a PS3 is a hot commodity and you normally get a lot of conversations just by standing next to it. The Sony PS3 is a high end gadget and buying it also means you’re cool, not geeky.

Watching Blu-Ray DVD movies is just awesome. If you have a LCD TV and hook it up with a simple HDMI cable (sold separately for about rmb100), you can view really crisp and clear Blu-ray movies. They are absolutely so stunning, you suddenly feel that the world didn’t tell you about Blu-Ray earlier. So far, everyone who visited my place was stunned by the quality of movies. The small downside - movies a bit expensive ranging from rmb200 - 400 a pop. Again, its well worth your time and effort buying them from Amazon.com, Taobao or during your visit to HK or Singapore.

The best part about PS3 is you can also view your regular DVDs with it. And I must say that the quality is better than any other normal DVD players. You would argue this is purely because of HDMI and LCD TV. I agree but normal Blu-Ray player does not offer so many awesome functions that I’ll be listing later.

Then the PS3 also allow you to slot in SD Card, Memory Stick and whatever the platform out there easily. You can then view all the high quality photos that you’ve taken in great presentation. There’s a little slide show that you can use when you want to show off to friends and relatives. I felt I was a better photographer right after seeing the pictures I took from the PS3.

Last but not least, you can play PS3 games on it. There’s a download function if you only a light gamer and wants to try out demo games rather than buying the full title (can be expensive at more than 300rmb a game). The game functions similar to PS2 but otherwise its a lot of title range with nice graphics. The game selection is mostly kill, kill, kill …. except for this rubber ducky game that’s more like a no-brainer after work game.

Other functions include surfing web, listening to audio music, ripping your CD into the PS3 and a better general well being. They have recently launched the 80Gb at a cheaper price so if you’re looking for a great home entertainment, look no further than the PS3. It has all the thumbs from me.
